China is a market with a vast number of opportunities. We are fully confident about the prospects of the Chinese economy and the Chinese market. Walmart entered the Chinese market and opened its first hypermarket and Sam’s Club in Shenzhen in 1996. Until today, Walmart has been operating in China for over 20 years with about 100,000 associates.
Currently, Walmart now operates different formats and banners in China including Walmart store and Sam’s Club. Walmart now has been operating approximately 400 retail units and 24 distribution centers across more than 100 cities nationwide.

Distribution Center

In March 2019, Walmart opened its first built-to-suit distribution center in China -- Walmart South China Fresh Food Distribution Center. It is built according to leading international standard. This 700 million yuan perishable distribution center in South China is the largest single investment in Walmart's 23-year history in the country. At 33,700 square meters, it is a multi-temperature perishable distribution center that can store and process more than 4,000 kinds of temperature-regulated, refrigerated or frozen goods simultaneously. It serves more than 100 Walmart stores in Guangdong and Guangxi, with daily distributing capacity of up to 165,000 cases of products.

Walmart Store

The Walmart store floor area is generally around 10,000 square meters, and offers more than 10,000 items including fresh food, apparel, household appliances, and dry grocery. Walmart stores provide omni-channel shopping experiences for customers in the neighboring communities. Walmart stores, as the main appeal, attract customers for the adjacent small retailers, restaurants and shops.
Walmart is committed to not only food safety and merchandise quality, but also the goal to “save people money, so they can live better”. Walmart conducts market research to select customer-preferred merchandise and continues to improve store display to drive store upgrades. Such efforts aim to enhance customers’ shopping experience and meet customers’ needs to promote overall sales growth.

Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club is a chain of high-end membership-only retail clubs owned and operated by Walmart Inc., a Fortune 500 company. It is named after the retail giant Mr. Sam Walton, founder of Walmart. Sam’s Club has a history close to 40 years since the opening of the first Sam’s Club in Midwest City, Oklahoma in April 1983. In the beginning of 1990s, Sam’s Club started to expand internationally. At the present, Sam’s Club has over 800 clubs around the world providing excellent shopping experience to over 50 million individual members and business members. The first Sam’s Club in China was opened in Shenzhen on August 12, 1996. So far, Sam’s Club has a total of 36 clubs serving 23 cities in China that are Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Dalian, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuhan, Changzhou, Zhuhai, Tianjin, Xiamen, Nanjing, Changsha, Nanchang, Chengdu, Shenyang, Nantong, Ningbo, Kunshan, Chongqing and Huizhou. In the future, Sam’s Club will continue to expand in China, bringing quality life to more Chinese families.
A Sam's Club has an average shopping area of 20,000 square meters and offers around 4000 differentiated and high-quality items from the local market and over 30 countries and regions. To deliver a unique shopping experience, Sam’s Club also provides members with interactive areas including “Sam’s Kitchen”, “Health Center”, and “Sam’s Home Online”, as well as “Wow items”, aiming to give inspiration for members’ lifestyle and making each club visit exciting. Sam’s assortment is also of competitive prices. With its continuous scale-up, Sam’s Club uses popular items to drive business sales, to promote long-term low prices and demonstrate the membership value.

Supermarket

Walmart Supermarket, positioning at community service, provides fresh, convenience and valuable products and service to customers, and helps improve the quality of daily life of urban busy families. Supermarket covers an area of about 600-1000 square meters and offers more than 6000 SKUs, 4000 of which are available on WM Daojia.
