Walmart Inc. was founded by American retail legend Mr. Sam Walton in Arkansas in 1962. After 60 years of development, Walmart now operates more than 10,500 stores and numerous eCommerce websites in 20 countries, and employs approximately 2.1 million associates around the world. Walmart has topped the Fortune 500 list several times.
Walmart China opened the first Walmart Hypermarket and Sam’s Club in Shenzhen in 1996. Since then, we have grown to operating hundreds of stores and multiple distribution centers in over 100 cities nationwide.
Today, we operate a number of formats and banners in China including Walmart Hypermarket and Sam’s Club.

Distribution Center

In March 2019, Walmart opened its first built-to-suit distribution center in China -- Walmart South China Fresh Food Distribution Center. It is built according to leading international standard. This 700 million yuan perishable distribution center in South China is the largest single investment in Walmart's 23-year history in the country. At 33,700 square meters, it is a multi-temperature perishable distribution center that can store and process more than 4,000 kinds of temperature-regulated, refrigerated or frozen goods simultaneously. It serves more than 100 Walmart stores in Guangdong and Guangxi, with daily distributing capacity of up to 165,000 cases of products.

Walmart Hypermarket

A Walmart hypermarket ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 square meters, offering up to more than 10,000 items including fresh food, apparel, household appliances, and dry grocery. Walmart hypermarkets provide an omnichannel shopping experience for customers in the neighboring communities. They are also the main appeal that attracts customers to visit the adjacent small retailers, restaurants and shops.

Walmart leverages market research to select an assortment preferred by customers, and continues to improve merchandise display to upgrade our stores. Such efforts seek to enhance customers’ shopping experience and meet their needs to drive sales growth.

Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club is a global membership warehouse club. Sam’s Club has 40 years of history since the opening of the first Sam’s Club in Midwest City, Oklahoma in April 1983. In the early 1990s, Sam’s Club started to expand internationally. Currently Sam’s Club has over 800 clubs around the world providing excellent shopping experience to over 50 million individual members and business members. The first Sam’s Club in China was opened in Shenzhen on August 12, 1996. To date, Sam’s Club has multiple clubs in China located in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Dalian, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuhan, Changzhou, Zhuhai, Tianjin, Xiamen, Nanjing, Changsha, Nanchang, Chengdu, Shenyang, Nantong, Ningbo, Kunshan, Chongqing, Huizhou, Nanning and Wuxi.

Supermarket

Walmart Supermarket, positioning at community service, provides fresh, convenience and valuable products and service to customers, and helps improve the quality of daily life of urban busy families. Supermarket covers an area of about 600-1000 square meters and offers more than 6000 SKUs, 4000 of which are available on WM Daojia.
